JourneySouth is an association of people who want to make a difference. We believe that our concept of Natural travel benefits participants, local communities and the environment. We care about the people we work with and it is our hope that everyone involved with us will feel the connection between our actions and the health of the planet. We work only with non-profit organizations that are trying to preserve the environment and better the lives of local communities.

It is our intent to follow the precepts of Natural travel as best we can. We travel in small groups, pay attention to details, offer the little touches that make an experience memorable and provide journeys that will enrich and transform your life.

Directors
John McKillop & Carole Pickett

John McKillop:
John’s background is in education. Following several years of teaching History and Special Education John gravitated towards his passion for wild places and environmental concerns. Long a proponent of experiential learning, John designed an award-winning program offering an environmental leadership training experience for high school students. The curriculum in this program focused on the whole person, was very intense and life changing for most students and became a model program copied by other school boards. Along the way John honed his skills leading groups of students on both wilderness adventures and international travel. For the past five years, John and his wife, Carole have travelled widely, have taken many groups to Costa Rica and have expanded the focus of JourneySouth to include people of all ages.

Carole Pickett:
Carole’s experience includes community development, career counselling and event planning. She has travelled extensively and has a gift for finding unique and elegant places. Carole is the chief designer of our trip itineraries and brings to JourneySouth her travel experience, love of people and attention to detail in everything she does.

Quebec Representative
Cristian Chavez:
Cristian is widely travelled, fluent in French, Spanish and English and has had considerable experience leading groups on wilderness trips. He has spent a number of years living in Costa Rica and is very familiar with the eco-village that is the focus of many of our expeditions. Cristian is responsible for organizing and leading JourneySouth trips originating in Quebec.
