This journey is:

  • An exploration of Ecuador, a land of many treasures. Experience the richness and natural beauty of the Napa River in the Amazon Basin and the grandeur of the Andean highlands.

  • A volunteer experience living and working on community projects with local indigenous high school students.

  • An opportunity to experience the rich indigenous culture of the Otavalo region of Ecuador, renowned for its weaving, markets and Andean music.

Itinerary

Day one
Upon arrival in Quito , transfer to a comfortable hotel in town and be introduced to the coming adventure.

Day two
Tour the "old town", with its magnificent colonial churches, government buildings, hotels and private residences and recently named a world heritage site.

Day three
Early flight to Coca in the Amazon Basin , then a two hour boat trip up the Napa River to your destination. Settle into the dormitory and meetlocal community members and students.

Day four
Community project work. Could include the organic gardens, basic construction or teaching English to community children.

Day five
Community project work.

Day six
Community project work.

Day seven
Enjoy a day visiting a local rainforest research station and hiking in an old growth forest reserve.

Day eight
Community project work. Share a celebration meal and closing exercises with local students.

Day nine
Fly back to Quito then transfer to Otavalo, the centre of a vibrant indigenous culture set high in the Andes.

Day ten
Visit local indigenous villages meet the people and see the ancient weaving skills.

Day eleven
Experience the Otavalo market, the largest and oldest continuous indigenous market on the planet. Stay in Otavalo.

Day twelve
Enjoy a morning hike in the mountains then return to Quito via Centro del Mundo for your last night before returning home.

Day thirteen
Transfer to the airport for the flight home.
